Eating Out

I am on day four of weightwatchers today and having no problem sticking with it. Feel very strong and looking forward to seeing poundage melt off *GRINS*. One problem in counting points is eating out, so I started this thread to capture those pages I'll need to refer to when counting what I eat when I'm out. I hope it helps you too. The first?

Gastric Bypass Surgery

I'd like to introduce my friend Tiffany to our group. Tiffany made a major decision to have gastric bypass surgery and lost 20 pounds in her first week, which is more than normal as she caught a bug just after the surgery. Tiffany, we'd love to hear how you're doing, and for you to share your experiences on this at www.HealthyHabitsClub.com.

An apple a day

I keep reading about the crucial nutrients contained in apples, oranges and bananas. I keep hearing about the importance of eating 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. I keep promising to up my fruit and vegetable consumption. And I keep reaching for a quick sweet treat that ends up sabotaging my healthy diet plans.

Here's what I tried today. I put a crisp Royal Gala apple, a just-ripe banana and a sweet, juicy clementine in a small dish. I plunked that mini fruit bowl right beside my desk. And today, I satisfied my mid-morning and mid-afternoon cravings with something sweet AND nutritious!

Moral of the story: Keep your goal in plain sight!

No buddy cares? Check in on the Yo-Yo Sisterhood

Ever wish you knew someone who would congratulate you for turning down that second helping, or for dropping another pound, or for needing to belt those too-loose jeans? How about someone who can persuade you to forgive yourself and keep trying? Most of us simply have nobody -- no buddy -- to help with our weight loss goals.

Frankly, I believe it's that weekly check-in at Weight Watchers that does the trick, more than the diet itself. The feeling that someone cares -- that someone is watching. A buddy.

So let's end the no-buddy problem. On Mondays, we'll check in to celebrate all of our victories for the week, whether that's a new low on the scale, great will power, exercising regularly or other healthy habits. Through the week, we can post our hints and tips and ask for advice and support. What works for you? What doesn't?

Because progress isn't measured only on the scale. It's in combining all the "ingredients" of a healthy lifestyle.

Good luck, buddies -- talk to you Monday!

Anthony Robbin's bulletin board has an interesting post about water...

Click on the title of this post to read it all, but I was surprised by this body builder's statement that... A non active person needs a half ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. That is ten 8 ounce glasses a day if your weight is 160 pounds. For every 25 pounds you exceed you ideal weight, increase it by one 8 ounce glass. An active, athletic person needs 2/3 ounce per pound which is 13-14 8 ounce glasses a day if you're 160 pounds. The more you exercise the more water you need. Spread out your water intake throughout the day. Do not drink more than 4 glasses within any given hour. After a few weeks your bladder calms down and you will urinate less frequently, but in larger amounts. . Sue :)

I lost 5 pounds in 1 week by drinking water!

One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or... Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

I bet there will be TONS of comments on this video...

Did you know that you can create, delete or change a habit by doing it 28 days in a row?

Try it for yourself... pick up a pen with the other hand and write your name out 28 times. What seems impossible at first, becomes relatively easy after 28 times. Really!

Heather is soccering into shape...

My sister Heather is setting an excellent example and has 'inserted' heathly habits into her day-to-day routine and is in better shape than she has been in years - way to go Heather! Care to share a tip? I've added you as publisher just in case *GRINS*. Sue :D

I dedicate this blog to Louise

...who is my bestest girlfriend, queen of yoyo dieting and hopefully a contributor to this new blog. Why did I start this blog? I started this blog because I'm tired of carrying extra luggage, and being out of shape, and out of balance. I want to grow more healthy habits and I'm asking for advice. Please share with me girlfriend! Sue :)

What a great idea!
